Trying out the viral Traditional Modern Dessert 😍

📍Yuen Yeung (🚆Maxwell)

a pretty new and popular dessert store that sells traditional-modern type of dessert🫣

we went on a weekday late afternoon, hence the crowd was still ok…. like there was 2-3 tables available :)

what we ordered:

🫒 pistachio paste $8.60

pistachio has been so viral nowadays cus of the dubai choco trend and who would think that it can be made into a traditional dessert? (not me HAHA😛)

super rich, nutty & creamy! it taste just like they took real pistachio, blended it into a paste…. as a pistachio lover i do like them💚

however, though i like them, the price tag is on the higher side :(

their portion size is also v small as the bowl is relatively smaller as compared to the other dessert.

hence, i think i will opt to try out other pistachio paste out there….

3.9/5⭐️ (-1.1 cus of the price & portion🙃)

🍧 traditional brown sugar & taro ball snow $5.90 (add on: taro paste $3+)

the shaved ice is fine and smooth, not too chunky, which what make a ice-y dessert enjoyable!

also the ✨TARO BALL✨ omg so good! big pieces and the right amount of chewiness!

we also added on taro paste on the side to try out! taste just like authentic blended taro paste! 😋

4/5⭐️ (decent dessert, nothing to complain about)

overall: for sure I’m coming back here to try out their other desserts! they serve like matcha mochi paste dessert? it already sounds so gooddd😋

... Read moreIf you’re considering visiting Yuen Yeung at Maxwell, here are some tips based on my experience that might help you enjoy your visit even more. Firstly, if you’re a fan of pistachio, don’t miss out on trying their pistachio paste dessert. It’s incredibly rich, creamy, and packed with nutty flavor — it genuinely tastes like real pistachios blended into a smooth paste. However, keep in mind that the portion size is smaller than expected and the price on the higher side at $8.60, so I’d recommend sharing it or balancing it with other desserts. Another highlight is the traditional brown sugar shaved ice with taro balls. The shaved ice is perfectly fine and smooth without being icy, which makes it refreshing especially on warm days. The taro balls are surprisingly large and chewy, giving a satisfying texture contrast to the soft ice. Adding the taro paste on the side enhances the dish with an authentic, rich taro flavor. For those curious about the menu, Yuen Yeung offers other inventive options too, like their matcha mochi paste dessert — sounds promising and worth a return visit. I found the setting nice and it wasn’t overly crowded on a weekday afternoon, which made the experience more pleasant. Locating the store is convenient with Maxwell MRT nearby, which adds to its appeal for both locals and visitors wandering around Chinatown. Pricing can be a bit steep for some desserts, so going with friends or family to share a few dishes might be the best way to explore more variety without overspending. Overall, Yuen Yeung nails the balance of traditional flavors with a modern presentation, creating memorable desserts that stand out in Singapore’s bustling dessert scene. I’d recommend this spot for anyone who loves trying viral food trends with an authentic twist and appreciates artisan craftsmanship in desserts.
