Street tacos at home
My food aversion is still pork so I used Ground chicken and Siete chorizo seasoning instead to make these "chorizo" tacos
Couldn't even really taste the difference 🙌
I also made a salsa roja and a salsa verde 💥
Ingredients:
White corn tortillas
Ground chicken
Packet of Siete chorizo seasoning
Chicken bone broth
Something to break up the meat (i used a potato masher 😅)
Toppings:
Chopped onion
Chopped Cilantro
Lime juice
Salsa
Making street tacos at home is a fantastic way to enjoy authentic Mexican flavors while catering to your dietary preferences. Using ground chicken as a substitute for traditional pork chorizo is a smart choice for those who have food aversions or prefer leaner meats. The Siete chorizo seasoning is a convenient way to infuse your chicken with that classic, smoky, slightly spicy flavor that defines chorizo without the pork. Start with white corn tortillas, which are traditional and provide that perfect balance of softness and sturdiness to hold your fillings. Warm them gently before assembling to make them more pliable and flavorful. The key to a juicy, well-textured chorizo filling is to break up the ground chicken thoroughly while cooking. Using a potato masher or spatula helps create small, uniform pieces that mimic the crumbled texture of chorizo. Adding chicken bone broth as you cook keeps the mixture moist and enhances savory depth. Toppings elevate these tacos to the next level. Fresh chopped onion and cilantro add crunch and herbaceous brightness, while a squeeze of lime juice brings acidity that balances the richness of the meat. Complementing your tacos with homemade salsa roja and salsa verde adds layers of complexity and freshness. Salsa roja typically includes roasted tomatoes, chilies, garlic, and onion, delivering a smoky, tangy heat. Salsa verde, made from tomatillos, provides a vibrant, tangy, and slightly acidic contrast. This recipe is also versatile for different dietary needs or preferences. For a fully homemade seasoning alternative, you can blend paprika, chili powder, garlic powder, cumin, oregano, and cayenne pepper to simulate chorizo seasoning. Additionally, experimenting with different proteins such as turkey, tofu, or even mushrooms can tailor the recipe further. Hosting a homemade taco night is not only delicious but also a fun way to bring family and friends together. It allows everyone to customize their toppings and explore flavors at their own pace. Plus, cooking at home ensures control over ingredients, supporting healthier choices. Overall, street tacos made with ground chicken and Siete chorizo seasoning provide a quick, tasty, and wholesome option to satisfy cravings for Mexican street food in the comfort of your own kitchen.
