Morning Cup of Memories…
I really enjoy Coffee in a Tea Cup & Saucer don’t get me wrong my cutesy Mugs are delightful. It’s just Tea Cups & Saucers takes me back to having tea, warm homemade biscuits & homemade Guava Jam with my Aunty Tanty growing up in Trinidad & Tobago 🇹🇹. Her Teas was always a good english black tea ☕️ or her own blends which I always enjoyed, especially the Orange and Lime Bud Tea. She taught me how to set the table for Breakfast-Lunch-Dinner and Tea 🫖 Times… Yes I was, as we say, “Brought up that way”. She’s on my Mom side of the family, she was a highly respected Teacher (My Tanty) and she was a Social Light in those times always having some kinda of functions. I learned much from her, but most of all she’ll say, “Sit down and breathe in the day with a good cup of Tea or Coffee Tea, in a nice Tea Cup & Saucer it Settles you,” and especially on Sunday’s we’d use the expensive Tea Settings. She’d say “Dey not just here to watch in the cabinet, Dey here to be used.” “Laughing!”
So Loved My Aunty Tanty 🕊️
Tea time rituals, like those shared with Aunty Tanty, hold a special place in many of our hearts. Growing up in Trinidad & Tobago, I’ve found that the simple act of sipping black tea or a custom blend such as Orange and Lime Bud Tea in a proper tea cup and saucer cannot be replicated by using regular mugs. The tactile experience of holding a delicate tea cup, the gentle clink against the saucer, and the aroma rising from the brew all contribute to a mindful pause in the day. I remember my own mornings starting with careful table setting, a tradition passed down to me that emphasized respect not only for the tea but for those sharing the moment. Setting the table for breakfast, lunch, dinner, or tea time was never just about utility—it was about creating an atmosphere of calm and connection. This ritual helped me appreciate the small, often overlooked pleasures in life. For me, tea time also symbolizes a chance to breathe and slow down, much like Aunty Tanty would say, 'Sit down and breathe in the day with a good cup of Tea or Coffee Tea, in a nice Tea Cup & Saucer it Settles you.' This advice resonates deeply today when life can be so fast-paced. Using special tea settings, especially on Sundays, adds an element of celebration to the routine, reminding me that these items are made to be enjoyed, not just admired in a cabinet. Incorporating such traditions into your routine can be a soothing practice, especially when paired with homemade treats that bring comfort and connection to family heritage. Whether you identify with Caribbean tea customs or have your own unique rituals, creating mindful moments like these can enrich your everyday life and nurture your wellbeing.
