𝕊𝕖𝕒𝕤𝕠𝕟 𝕠𝕗 𝕥𝕙𝕖 𝔸𝕢𝕦𝕒𝕣𝕚𝕦𝕤: 𝕃𝕖𝕧𝕚 𝔹𝕠𝕠𝕟𝕖 ℍ𝕖𝕝𝕞

Let’s take it back to Lincoln County, Kentucky in the midst of the rise of the Wild West. Nancy Wilcox and Joseph Helm were well known in their community. They were honest and worked hard for everything they had. On January 28,1828, they welcomed their baby boy into the world. His name was Levi Boone Helm. It wouldn’t be too long after, his family would leave him and head for Missouri, leaving a young Boone Helm to raise himself.

Throughout his teenage years, Boone was often found at the bars starting fights with all the locals. For Boone it was always about strength and being the toughest man around. He believed in taking what you want instead of working hard for it. Robbery was how he made a living for himself. If anyone was in the way he would kill them. He was well known around town as being a problem. Nothing was ever done about this though due to fear. He was described as primal and animalistic by anyone who encountered him.

Regardless of all the violence he managed to win the heart of Lucinda Frances Bowling and were eventually married in 1851. They would go on to have a baby girl named Lucy. Unfortunately, Boone’s temper would only get worse. He would often come home from the bars and continuously beat his wife. The beatings got so bad that when Boones father got wind of it he offered to pay for the divorce, leaving Joseph bankrupt in the end.

After the divorce, a gold craze broke out in California. Boone took this as the perfect opportunity to get rich and famous. He spoke with his cousin Littlebury Shoot about tagging along but when Boone was ready to go Littlebury backed out leaving Boone in a rage. He pulled out his Bowie knife and plunged it deep into his cousin’s chest, killing him instantly. Without any remorse, Boone left for the West.

Throughout his travels he would come across many men just like him. While he would travel along with some groups longer than others most would eventually end up dead, some due to his temper if not all. Boone left a trail of bodies as he made his way through the states. He was also known to eat some of his victims since food was scarce. Boone’s reign of terror lasted for 14 years.

Boone was later caught by three men of the Montana vigilantes and would finally brought to justice. While the body count is unknown he did confess to a few. On January 14, 1864 with 6000 people in attendance at the gallows in Virginia City, Montana Levi Boone Helm was dead.

“Every Man for his principles! Hurrah for Jeff Davis! Let’er rip!” Boone yelled before he jumped off the hangman’s box.
