Maya Goodall
It was an honor to listen to Maya Goodall speak about equity and the beauty of multilingual learners.
She has been such an inspiration for me throughout the years. She is also just a gem of a human being and it was an honor to get to speak with her for a few minutes.
Attending a talk by Maya Goodall truly reinforced my understanding of the challenges and beauty involved in supporting multilingual learners. Her commitment to equity in education goes beyond theory; it’s evident in the real changes she fosters in classrooms and communities. From personal experience, integrating culturally responsive teaching practices can transform the way students engage with learning, especially those acquiring multiple languages. Maya emphasizes that multilingual learners bring unique strengths and perspectives that enrich the educational environment. Recognizing their potential involves not only language support but also validating their cultural identities. In practice, this might mean educators adapting lesson plans to include diverse voices and encouraging peer collaboration across language backgrounds. At past educational events like the Oregon RTII Annual Conference, leaders like Maya demonstrate how systemic support and teacher training are crucial for lasting impact. It’s inspiring to see how small changes in attitude and approach can empower students and improve equity. Having worked with multilingual learners myself, I’ve seen firsthand how meaningful interaction and respect for their experiences boost confidence and academic success. Maya’s message is a reminder for educators and communities to continue advocating for these learners, ensuring education systems evolve to meet everyone’s needs inclusively and with respect.
