Let’s save my Wentii Aurea from root rot😭
My Alocasia Wentii Aurea started rapidly losing her leaves so I knew there was an issue with her roots. She has consistently pushed new growth with high variegation so this was not normal behavior. Since she’s one of my favorite plants, I knew I had to act fast to save her before the issue moved into her rhizome and became more difficult to treat.
Here’s what I did:
1. Removed her from her self-watering setup (yes, plants can still get root rot when in a self-watering setup)
2. Assessed the damage and confirmed my suspicions
3. Gently removed all rotten debris from her rhizome
4. Rinsed off the rest for a fresh start
5. Sanitized a glass container and filled with fresh water
6. Placed her in my cabinet with my other rehabbers for close monitoring
7. Reminded her that she’s strong and beautiful and capable of doing hard things🫶🏼
This is why you’ll constantly see me stressing the importance of healthy roots and monitoring root conditions. Your plant will let you know when something’s not right. It’s up to you to pay attention to what they’re trying to tell you.
