Living frugally in Singapore doesn’t mean missing out on the vibrant social scene the city has to offer. From my own experience, there are so many ways to enjoy quality time with friends and meet new people without breaking the bank. One of my favorite ways is to take advantage of the numerous community and DIY club activities available around Singapore. These often cost very little or nothing at all, providing great opportunities for fitness, creativity, and socialising. Exploring Singapore’s heartland areas offers some delightful surprises. These neighbourhoods showcase hidden gems like affordable happy hour deals, cozy homey cafes, and chill spots where you can relax or “lepak” as locals say. I’ve found that these places foster a sense of belonging and community, perfect for students or anyone new to the city wanting to build a social network. Another tip I’ve adopted is keeping an eye on student discounts and special event tickets. Many cultural venues and entertainment spots offer subsidized prices for students, making it easier to enjoy arts, performances, or sports events without overspending. Lastly, mindful spending and budgeting are key. Prioritizing activities that bring genuine joy and social connection over extravagant outings helps maintain a balanced lifestyle. Remember, good vibes and good company are the most valuable aspects of social life – and these don’t have to cost anything at all!
