YouTube Premium is already getting serious about checking family subscribers; after some users received an email warning that its account could be suspended if it did not live in the same home as the family manager.

By e-mail, it is clear that if not confirmed within 14 days, it can still be in the family group, but will return to the normal version of YouTube with advertisements. Premium privileges can no longer be used. This policy is the original requirement since 2023, but YouTube has never been so strict.

What happened made many people feel that it was similar to what Netflix used to do. That is, it forced account sharing to be done only to people who were actually at the same home to eliminate the problem of "dividing" costs across homes or across families. The result at Netflix was that the peak of users increased so obviously that it put pressure on other platforms to adopt the same approach.

In the case of YouTube Premium, this new measure will be electronically monitored every 30 days. To confirm that everyone on the Family Plan is still at the same home as the actual family manager, previously even unchecked, it has almost no effect, but now it doesn't seem to be anymore.

However, a report from a user on Reddit indicates that few people are still in strict enforcement. Many people abroad still share family with each other, but it is a clear sign that the service is going to "break home" soon. Anyone sharing with a friend or boyfriend who is not together may have to prepare to find a new solution.
