Anyone who is using Windows 11 should have been frustrated with the Search box in Start Menu or Taskbar when searching for something and then bouncing to open it in Microsoft Edge with Bing, even though we have already set Chrome or Firefox as the main browser. This is like a "knot" that Windows users have complained about for a long time because it causes discrete use and feels too forced.

But the latest news is coming out because Microsoft is ambushing a big change in Edge Canary that could make search through Start Menu really respect our settings. This means that if we choose Chrome as the main browser and set Google as the default Search Engine, pressing Start Menu will immediately turn on the results in Google on Chrome.

Behind the change was the addition of several new "flags" in Edge, which translated into simple human language that Microsoft was testing a system that would allow users to choose which browser to use and what Search Engine, making the design of Start Menu Search more "reasonable."

Interestingly, this adjustment may not have happened because Microsoft was so kind, but because of pressure from restrictive European (EU) laws on software monopolies. Microsoft has previously been forced to make a number of adjustments, such as extending free updates to Windows 10 in Europe. Edge + Bing enforcement could be seen as a monopoly to risk further adjustments, forcing Microsoft to move.

However, it has not been confirmed whether the feature will be available worldwide. It is still in testing and may start releasing only regions first, especially in Europe where the laws are darker.
