ChatGPT Version 18 + is coming. Talk about adults safely.
Sam Altman, CEO of OpenAI, issued a post on X (or Twitter, originally) revealing that the company is preparing to launch a new version of ChatGPT that supports adult-themed (18 +) dialogue, including erotic content, for users who only confirm their age as an adult, with plans to start being available during December 2025.

He stated that ChatGPT has been very restrictive in the past to avoid the mental health effects of users. Although it makes many people feel that ChatGPT is too restrictive, the company now has new tools to help filter safety, manage those risks better, so it is ready to "relax restrictions" under the "treat adults like adults" principle.

He previously joked on Cleo Abram's show, "We haven't put a sex-bot in ChatGPT yet," reiterating that OpenAI won't do a system of that nature because it wants AI to focus on user benefits and security, not to entertain beyond its borders.

In addition to opening up to talk about adults, the new version of ChatGPT adds a "self-adjusting AI personality" feature, such as talking like a friend, using a lot of emojis, or talking in a more warm tone to the user, so that the conversation is more natural and closer to a human being.

The newer ChatGPT is still based on the GPT-5 model, but it has internal tweaks to support all the new features, with the expected to be fully operational by the end of 2025.
