In a new help article called KB5070538, Microsoft explains that the date or version seen in the update list does not always indicate whether the driver is new or old. Because the date of the driver is determined by the manufacturer, which may be set to anything, the system does not use the date as a metric, but directly refers to the data and criteria from the device manufacturer to choose to install the version that works best with our hardware, even if there is an old date or a backward version.

Another point that many people wonder about is why some machines have multiple drivers with similar names or repeated version numbers.
