China National Firmware UBIOS
China has moved towards full technological independence. With the launch of a new firmware standard called UBIOS or Unified Basic Input Output System, developed by the Global Computing Consortium (GCC), which is joined by leading Chinese technology companies like Huawei, Byosoft, Kunlun Tech and CESI. The main purpose of UBIOS is not only technical, but also about reducing dependence on Western standards like UEFI controlled by Intel and Microsoft.

UBIOS is built from scratch, not built on legacy systems. The internal structure is modular, easy to customize and expand functions. It supports the world's core architectures of x86, ARM, RISC-V and LoongArch, as well as modern technologies like chiplet and heterogeneous computing that are gaining popularity in the AI era. The new firmware is designed to work with Chinese and Linux operating systems to create an ecosystem that China can control from the chip level to software.

The development of UBIOS is the result of the cooperation of 13 companies and technology agencies in the country. Under the direction of GCC and CESI, this reflects that the project is not only an experiment, but an important step towards the future construction of China's national computer system.

UBIOS will be deployed in many sectors, from servers, PCs, cars to IoT devices and large-scale infrastructure within the country. Even establishing a new standard from scratch will take time to prove stability, security and compatibility with legacy systems, but if China pushes successfully, UBIOS could become a key pin that frees China from its dependence on foreign technology and lays the foundation to a new era of true digital independence.
