YouTube went ahead to enhance the viewing experience on SMART TV by launching an AI-based Super Resolution feature, upscaling low-definition videos such as 240p or 480p to sharper HD or 1080p definition, retaining original files and original resolution options for viewers to choose from as they wish.

This feature is under testing with some creators and plans to support upscaling to 4K levels in the future. Creators can also disable Super Resolution and audio automation if they do not want AI to handle content directly.

In addition, YouTube expanded the maximum cover image (Thumbnail) file size from 2MB to 50MB to support 4K high-definition images, as well as began testing the upload of larger video files. To support high-quality content equivalent to major streaming services, these features are aimed at answering both creators and viewers watching through TV screens, which are constantly growing.

On the user experience side, YouTube adds an Immersive Previews feature, or interactive video preview, on a Netflix preview home page, allowing viewers to choose content more easily and fun, with an update to the "Contextual Search" system that will display results from the searched box first, increasing accuracy and saving search time.

YouTube is also set to launch a shopping tool on TV through QR Code scans to allow viewers to purchase items that appear in videos instantly. The feature aims to increase revenue for creators and expand business opportunities in the big-screen content market, which Kurt Wilms, senior director of YouTube, identified as another milestone in upgrading the viewing experience to the "crisp, smart and complete machine" ever.
