That collapsed because of acting purely by yourself 🚨
The massive crash of Cloudflare on Nov 18, 2025 has become a global impact event. A variety of websites, social media platforms, news web, online stores, as well as gaming services, are broadly unavailable simultaneously.
.
Many in the early stages understood that Cloudflare had been attacked or hit by a DDoS shot because of the high traffic and a similar anomaly response system during the collapse, but ultimately Cloudflare came out to argue that Cloudflare had nothing to do with any hackers or attacks, and that it was an internal problem for the company itself.
.
The cause started with the Cloudflare team adjusting the database access permissions. When the query system from ClickHouse did not specify the database clearly, it accidentally obtained a lot of duplicates. These duplicates were used to create Bot Management system feature files. Normally, there are only about 60 features and they are limited to 200 features. But the faulty files are so large that they exceed the limit. When they are spread across the network, Cloudflare's main proxies are constantly panicking and crashing. Many key services are chain-bound.
.
The complexity is that this file is regenerated every five minutes, thus causing the system to become so stuck that the team has long misunderstood that it may have actually been attacked. The analysis process was delayed. When the cause was detected, the team stopped the creation of the file, reverted to the correct version, and restarted the global system.
.
Cloudflare's service resumed around 21: 20 Thailand time and returned to normal at midnight, including a 3-6 hour crash with the affected service.
.
CEO Matthew Prince apologized to users around the world and acknowledged that this was the worst crash since 2019, with an announcement of increased monitoring measures and systems to prevent this from happening again in the future.
