The word AI slop has become a hot topic over the past year. After the Merriam-Webster Dictionary, the word "slop" was chosen as the word of the year 2025 to call for a huge amount of low-quality content produced with AI, which reflects an industry so full of fake news, deep news and absurd information that many see it as the time when AI was the most questioned since its birth.

He sees the world as supposed to move beyond the debate over whether AI works "rough or exquisite" because technology is now entering the age of practical applications. He proposes to shift the mindset to look at AI as a tool that empowers humans. Similar to the idea that Steve Jobs once described computers as "bikes for ideas," with the core not the power of the model, but its implementation of meaningful results in the real world.

He also stated that the AI industry needs to go from focusing on model development to building practical systems and must prove to society its positive impact in order to be worth the huge energy and budget that AI has to redeem.

Although the idea sounded beautiful, the feedback from netizens did not go in the same direction. After the post was released, the hashtag "Microsoft" hit the trend, reflecting dissatisfaction with Microsoft's push of AI features like Copilot into virtually every product. Meanwhile, AI in the real world was heavily criticized for creating junk data, job scrambling, hardware pricing, and causing more problems than benefits.
