The YouTube channel TrigrZolt has compared the performance of virtually all generations of Windows, from Windows XP, Vista, 7, 8.1, 10 to Windows 11, using notebooks with all the same specs to see which Windows versions work best on the same hardware.

In this test, TrigrZolt used six Lenovo ThinkPad notebooks, installed different versions of Windows, the hardware being Intel Core i5-2520M specs, 8GB DDR3 RAM, and a 256GB capacity HDD hard disk, and then tested more than a dozen performance items such as boot speed, memory management, app opening, video rendering, Benchmark computing to battery life.

Boot tests showed that Windows 8.1 used the least time, while Windows 11 was the slowest. Despite supporting the Fast Boot feature on storage use, Windows XP used only about 18.9GB of space, and Windows 11 used more than 37GB.

On the RAM management side, Windows XP uses only about 0.8GB of Idle while Windows 11 uses more than 3GB and some spikes to 3.7GB, resulting in an old machine with little RAM with easy retardation. Many browser tab opening tests have found that Windows 8.1 can open up to 252 tabs, while Windows 11 can only open 49 tabs.

On the battery side, Windows 11 is the fastest running out of batteries. Windows XP makes the best time, but it only differs by a few minutes, which may not result much in practical use. For content creation tasks such as Export, Audio in Audacity, and Windows 11 video rendering are still at the end of the table, while Windows 10 does the best in this respect.

Opening common applications like File Explorer, Paint, Calculator, Adobe Reader, and VLC Media Player is another point where Windows 11 is the slowest time for any program, while Windows 11 file transfers are second best behind Windows 10.

In the Benchmark category, the result was that Windows XP won the single-core CPU-Z test, Windows 7 featured Multicore, while Windows 8.1 and Vista scored very well in programs like Cinebench and Geekbench.
