Xbox reorientated. Fold Copilot feature on mobile and console ð
Xbox's new CEO Asha Sharma announced the folding of the Copilot project on smartphones, and stopped developing Copilot on Xbox consoles that were still under development; the latter saw the feature as inconsistent with the Xbox team's new direction.
.
This decision coincided with a reorganization of management within the Xbox team. She stated that Xbox needed to move faster, understand more players, and simplify both players and developers. Some of the team was adjusted, and new executives were drawn to complement the team to help push Microsoft's gaming business into the next phase.
.
Previously, Microsoft launched Copilot for Gaming in March 2025, placing it as an AI assistant for Xbox players. It can answer game questions, monitor player activity, view Achievement progress, and recommend content.
.
Microsoft also previously stated at the GDC 2026 event that Gaming Copilot has plans to expand to the Xbox Series X | S within this year, making this discontinuation of development on consoles a pretty clear change of direction; the company recently mentioned that plan.
.
However, she did not mention Copilot for Gaming on PC in this announcement; it is therefore possible that the PC version may still be the main platform Microsoft is moving forward on, while the mobile and console sides will be reduced in role in accordance with the Xbox team's new strategy.
