New alternative notebook from Google 🍋

Google launches "Google Books," a new-age notebook designed specifically for Gemini Intelligence, set for a late 2026 release with deep-seated AI hallmarks to the operating system and full-scale everyday use.

One of the most interesting features is the Magic Pointer, a smart cursor that just "shakes the mouse twice," can summon Gemini to guide or order immediately according to what is pointing on the screen in real time. For example, if you point to an email date, the system recommends creating an appointment on Google Calendar, or if you choose two images, Gemini can create a new simulation from both.

Google is also adding new capabilities through the Create Your Widget feature that allows users to create personal widgets with natural language commands. Gemini can retrieve data from the Internet, including Google services like Gmail, Maps, and Calendar to create unique dashboards or widgets, such as lottery tracking widgets, holiday notifications, or summary daily schedules.

Another key highlight is the seamless collaboration with Android. Users can open Android mobile apps directly on Google Books without reinstalling, as well as access mobile files through the Quick Access feature that helps find, open, view, and use files immediately through File Browser without transferring files to the machine.

On the hardware side, Google says it has partnered with leading manufacturers like Acer, ASUS, Dell, HP and Lenovo to develop the first version of the Google Book. It comes with premium, light design and unique materials. Glowbar, a glowing light bar on the unit that is used both for aesthetic and functional status.

Google explains that Google Books is not just a new generation of Chromebooks, but the concept of an "AI Notebook" that combines Chrome Browser, Android apps and an operating system designed for AI, with Gemini at the core of the entire user experience.

However, there are still many issues to follow, particularly the question of how much Android will be ready for as a full notebook OS, multi-window management, pro-line work, screen extension, and overall desktop experience.

For specification details, prices, sub-models, and countries to be released, Google indicated that it would reveal more again by the end of the year, slated for international sale sometime in the fall of 2026 onwards.
