Schools switch to MacBook Neo instead of Windows 🍋

The educational technology market is making a spectacular move after Kansas City Public Schools, or KCPS, a school district in the United States, announced a major replacement plan to become an All-Apple District or use Apple devices as a whole system.

According to KCPS, the prep school gradually disengaged more than 30,000 original Windows PC and Chromebooks and switched to Apple ecosystem devices instead. Students from grade 8 (M.2) and above will receive a MacBook Neo that is Apple's new startup MacBook, while lower-grade students will still use the existing iPad and MacBook Air on the system.

KCPS revealed that it has already purchased more than 4,500 of the first MacBook Neo to support high school students, according to KCPS Chief Technology Officer Scott Jones. This transition is an investment in safer, more durable and stable technology and helps create a better learning experience for students.

The issue was even more talked about after Apple raised the case for KCPS during its Q2 2026 earnings report, with Kevan Parekh, Apple's chief financial officer, stating that the Mac product portfolio is also growing well in the enterprise and education markets, reflecting that Apple is trying to penetrate a market where Windows PC and Chromebook originally occupied their primary roles for a long time.

However, some of the data on the impact on the supply chain, such as the potentially higher-than-expected MacBook Neo orders, the A18 Pro chips starting to tighten, the acceleration of chip production from TSMC, as well as a delivery target that could move from 6 million to 10 million units, is also data on the "report from industry sources" level, not a figure officially confirmed by Apple or KCPS.
