Valve stated that higher prices than previously anticipated were the result of the hardware parts price crisis, particularly memory (RAM), that has steadily risen over the past several months, causing production costs to rise dramatically, and that the company chose not to subsidize hardware prices like other console manufacturers.

In addition, Valve has opened a reservation system for interested people. Users can register their interest starting today, but it is not a pre-order, as the company will use the Lottery system to select the first lot of customers.
