Not just across Jane, but across the camp.
One user ordered an AMD Ryzen 7 9800X3D from Amazon, but when the factory seal box was unpacked, it was found that the inside was an Intel Core i9-10900K, a different CPU, a different CPU, a different socket, and a different era.
.
The victim posted the story to a Facebook group of hardware players, with an image confirming that the external box is a Ryzen 7 9800X3D and the seal also looks complete, but when it turned out it was found Intel Core i9-10900K, a Comet Lake CPU launched since 2020, uses an LGA1200 socket, while Ryzen 7 9800X3D is a Zen 5 CPU on the AM5 platform, so it is not interchangeable at all.
.
The owner of the post also said that Amazon's customer service contact was a bit tricky, going through several stages of AI before talking to real employees. Amazon finally sent them a new product.
.
However, there is still no clear evidence of at what stage the crash occurred, with speculation that it may have been a product that had been taken by previous customers to swap CPUs and then returned, then re-sold without the review process being thorough enough, or that it may have happened at the submission stage, but no official confirmation has yet been made by Amazon.
.
This isn't the first time this has happened, because in 2025 there was a review from Hardware Busters that also ordered Ryzen 7 9800X3D from Amazon, but instead received a fake CPU modified from the old AMD FX-4100, both with the external box looking like a new one and sealed off.
.
This is therefore a warning to people who buy high-priced CPUs or hardware online that even if the product looks like a "new seal," it is not a guarantee that it is inside, so video should be taken from before unpacking to opening the product, to be used as evidence if they have to claim the store or platform later, especially high-priced products like CPUs or screen cards that are often the target of periodic shuffling.
