Here’s what I learned for next time

1. Use better thread!!!

I was disappointed in the cheap thread that I used. Better color variation and the ability to unwind the thread would have made for a better outcome.

2. Use the right material

Like I did with the thread, I used the material that I already had which just so happened to be felt. While it was pretty easy to work with, there are holes that are still visible in direct light that look out of place.

3. Learn more stitches

Although I am pretty happy with how my project looks I think some texture variation would elevate the outcome quite a bit.

This was just an impulse project for me but I really enjoyed making it! Maybe I’ll do another one soon :)

... Read moreYou might think fitness and crafts are totally separate worlds, but hear me out! As someone who loves breaking a sweat and pushing my limits, I've recently discovered the incredible calming power of embroidery. It's become my go-to activity to de-stress and unwind after a long run or an intense gym session. Who knew stitching could be so meditative? For fellow fitness enthusiasts, embroidery offers a unique kind of mental workout. After focusing so much on physical performance, switching to a creative, tactile task like embroidery helps quiet my mind. The repetitive motion of needle and thread, much like the rhythmic breathing in meditation or the steady pace of a jog, can be incredibly grounding. It's a fantastic way to practice mindfulness, bringing your attention completely to the present moment and letting go of any lingering tension from your workout. Beyond mental well-being, this craft can also subtly enhance your physical prowess. Embroidery demands fine motor skills and hand-eye coordination – the kind of precision that can cross over into sports or even just improving overall dexterity. Think about the intricate movements in a complex exercise routine; the control you develop with a needle can surprisingly benefit your general body awareness. And let's talk about personalization! As a fitness enthusiast, you probably have gear you love. Imagine adding a personal touch to your gym bag, water bottle sleeve, or even a simple workout towel. You don't need to create a whole sunset landscape like my first project (though that was super rewarding!). Starting with small, meaningful designs – maybe your favorite motivational quote, a tiny emblem, or your initials – can make your items truly unique. This transforms them from just functional gear into reflections of your personality and dedication. If you're new to embroidery, don't be intimidated. Just like starting a new fitness routine, the key is to begin with basics. My first project, a simple sunset, taught me so much about thread and material. For activewear or gym accessories, choose durable fabrics that can withstand washing, and opt for colorfast embroidery floss so your hard work doesn't bleed. Learning a few basic stitches, like the running stitch, backstitch, or satin stitch, will open up a world of possibilities for customizing your gear. You don't need a huge variety of stitches to make something beautiful and personal. Fitting embroidery into a busy schedule is easier than you think. Use those post-workout cool-down minutes, listen to a podcast while you stitch, or dedicate a short 15-30 minute session in the evening. It’s a wonderful, low-impact activity that nurtures a different part of you – providing a creative balance to your active lifestyle. So, if you're looking for a new way to relax, express yourself, and even subtly boost your coordination, give embroidery a try! You might just find your new favorite cooldown activity.

Hi!! ive been embroidering for about three years now! i noticed you are using craft cord instead of embroidery thread!! dmc is great but you can also get it in packs as long as it actually says embrodery thread. also keep your strands short to prevent tangling :)

Even though it is craft thread I really like the added texture it gives!
