How To Make Custom Digital Notebook Covers!!!

For all the students and anyone who wants to make their digital notes so much cuter, this post is for you!!

In this post I show you how to create custom digital notebook covers for any class you're taking! I do this in Canva (my fav website ever)!

Some notes -

•You do not have to pay for Canva Pro to do this. To do this with the free version just make sure that the template you choose to use doesn't have the Pro crown symbol by it. In my opinion you definitely don't need the Pro version of Canva but I do have it because it just speeds things up for me since I use it so often.

•Get creative! In the post I showed how you can changed the words of the cover to match your class name and other details. But you can also change the background of the cover too! You can either search for a background in canva under the 'Elements' tab on the left hand side when you are editing. Or something I love to do is find a cute photo on pinterest and use that for my background! The possibilities are endless!

↓How to set a new Cover for your notebook in Goodnotes↓

• I use Goodnotes as my note-taking app. I'm not quite sure how to do it on other apps but for Goodnotes it's very easy! Just create a new notebook with a random cover or go into an existing notebook. Then in the upper right hand corner click the page icon with the plus sign inside of it. From there click Import, and then find the pdf cover in your files. Now in the upper left hand corner click the 4 squares. Then click and drag your new Cover page to the very first spot! You can delete the other random cover and there you go! You have a cute new cover for your notebook!

SAVE this if it was helpful!!

... Read moreAs a huge fan of digital note-taking, I absolutely adore customizing my workspace! It just makes studying and planning so much more fun and personal. While the original post gives an amazing foundation on creating beautiful digital notebook covers using Canva, I wanted to share some extra tips and tricks I've discovered to truly elevate your designs and make them uniquely yours. First off, let's talk about design beyond just changing the text and background. Canva is a treasure trove of possibilities, even with the free version! When I'm working on a new journal cover or a specific academic notebook, I always think about the vibe I want to create. For instance, for my 'Linear Algebra' notebook, I might opt for a minimalist, geometric design, while for a creative writing journal, I'd go for something more whimsical with intricate florals or abstract art. Don't just stick to solid colors or basic patterns; explore Canva's 'Elements' section for free graphics, lines, and shapes that can instantly transform your cover. I love searching for terms like 'aesthetic' or 'minimalist' or even specific themes like 'cottagecore' to find unique assets. Typography plays a huge role too! Canva offers a vast library of fonts. Try combining two different fonts – one for the main title (like your class name) and a simpler one for the year or details. Make sure they complement each other and are easy to read. A classic serif font can give a sophisticated touch, while a modern sans-serif feels clean and organized. And don't forget about color palettes! If you're struggling to find colors that work well together, Canva has pre-made color combinations, or you can use online tools to extract a palette from an image you love (maybe one you found on Pinterest!). This ensures your custom notebook cover looks cohesive and professional, even if you’re a beginner. Another fantastic way to make your digital notebook covers pop is by integrating personal photos or images. While the original post mentions Pinterest, I also love using sites like Unsplash or Pexels for high-quality, free stock photos. You can upload these directly into Canva and use them as full backgrounds or incorporate them into frames for a collage effect. This is especially great for a travel journal or a memory book where you want to feature your own pictures. Remember, the goal is to make your cover not just functional but also inspiring every time you open your notes! For those of you using apps other than Goodnotes, the good news is that the design process in Canva is universal! Once you've created your stunning digital notebook cover template, you can download it as a PDF or an image file. Most popular note-taking apps like Notability, OneNote, or even simple PDF readers allow you to import custom covers, usually by adding a blank page and then inserting your designed image or PDF. Always check your specific app's instructions, but you'll find the process is generally straightforward. Creating a truly custom notebook experience is all about personalizing every detail, and these covers are the perfect starting point. Happy designing!
