... Read moreYou know that feeling when you stumble upon a movie completely by chance and it just blows you away? That's exactly how my January 2025 movie marathon started, especially with what I'm calling 'the trunk movie' everyone's buzzing about: 'It's What's Inside'! Like I mentioned, I always go into movies blind, hardly ever knowing what they're about, and honestly, it makes the experience 1000% more enjoyable. This approach led me to some incredible finds this month, and 'It's What's Inside' definitely topped the list. I'd seen the 'poster' for 'It's What's Inside' floating around, the one depicting a group of people in and around a car trunk, and it piqued my interest. Released in 2024 and available on Netflix, I decided to give it a shot. And wow, it absolutely delivered! I instantly gave it a 5/5 rating, and it quickly became a personal 'favorite'. Seriously, I can already tell 'it will be rewatched'. Without giving away spoilers, the premise is incredibly unique and keeps you guessing. It's not just a thriller; it delves into human nature in a way that left me thinking long after the credits rolled. If you're looking for a mind-bending, suspenseful film that uses its central 'trunk' concept brilliantly, this is one to add to your list. Beyond 'the trunk movie', January was packed with other thrilling discoveries. 'Don't Move' was another standout, earning a 'pretty darn good!' 5/5 from me. What made it unique wasn't just the suspense, but how it felt distinct from other similar concepts, like 'Run'. It really carved out its own space in the horror-thriller genre, offering some genuinely fresh scares and a gripping storyline that kept me on the edge of my seat. I also checked out 'Wolf Man'. While I did enjoy it and appreciated the well-executed 'jump scares', I've 'seen better' werewolf films. It was a solid 3/5 for me – decent for a spooky evening, but not groundbreaking. Then there were the 'wasn't bad' but forgettable ones, like 'There's Someone Inside Your House'. It got a 3/5, and honestly, 'likely won't be rewatched'. It had its moments, but didn't quite stick with me. On the other end of the spectrum was 'Killer Book Club'. I gave it a low 2/5 and truly felt like 'I could've went without watching this'. It just didn't hit the mark for me, feeling a bit cliché and predictable. Not every blind watch is a winner, right? But it wasn't all new discoveries! I also indulged in some comfort rewatches. 'I Know What You Did Last Summer' is such a 'CLASSIC!' horror film from the 90s, and it was great to revisit it. Hearing about a potential remake made me appreciate the original even more. And sometimes, after a long day, you just need a 'stupid movie' to unwind. That's where 'American Pie' and 'American Pie 2' came in. Both 'rewatches' got a solid 5/5 for pure nostalgic fun. They're perfect for when you just want to laugh and not think too hard. It was a diverse month of viewing, but finding 'It's What's Inside' (the trunk movie!) as a hidden Netflix gem truly made my January movie diary memorable. What movies have surprised you lately?
