Autism cannot be seen

But your reaction to it, yes.

Con Amor: La Mama Azul💙🧩

3/12 Edited to

... Read moreAutism spectrum disorder (ASD) is often described as a hidden condition because the traits and challenges associated with it are not immediately visible to others. From personal experience and conversations with families, I have realized that while autism itself cannot be seen, the ways we respond to those who are autistic play a significant role in their daily lives. One powerful insight is that reactions to autism—whether empathetic, patient, or supportive—can shape a positive environment that encourages growth and acceptance. For example, simple acts like patiently explaining instructions or allowing extra time for communication can reduce stress for autistic individuals. On the other hand, misunderstandings or dismissive attitudes may cause discomfort or anxiety. I recall a situation where a friend’s child, who is autistic, struggled with loud noises in public places. Instead of showing frustration, the family’s gentle reaction helped soothe the child, demonstrating the importance of compassionate responses. It has become clear to me that embracing this mindset not only helps those with autism but also educates communities about inclusivity. Furthermore, learning about autism beyond stereotypes—from the unique talents to the sensory sensitivities—enables us to recognize and appreciate the diverse ways people experience the world. This awareness fosters respect and reduces stigma. Overall, while autism is not something you can observe visually, your reaction—grounded in kindness and understanding—creates meaningful impact. Sharing experiences and knowledge about autism encourages better support networks and nurtures a more inclusive society for everyone.

A woman with braided hair, wearing a black top and cap, stands confidently with hands on hips. Text overlays describe her 'AFTER MY DIAGNOSIS' state: speaking her truth, being authentically herself, standing behind choices, self-love, and accommodating her needs.
Why ADHD and autism diagnoses matter
I thought I was autistic for a year or so before I was formally diagnosed. And as far as ADHD goes, I was pretty sure I had it for several years before I was evaluated. So, imagine my lack of surprise when I was dual evaluated for both and it was determined that I am indeed AuDHD. But something
