Box Braids or Knotless Braids?🤔

Knotless braids and box braids are both popular protective hairstyles, but they have some key differences.

Knotless Braids:

🤞🏽Technique: Knotless braids are created by starting with your natural hair and adding hair gradually without using a knot at the base.

👩🏽‍🦱Scalp Tension: Since knotless braids don't use knots at the base, they are generally considered to be less tension on the scalp compared to traditional box braids.

🔸Versatility: Knotless braids look more natural and can be styled in various ways due to their seamless appearance.

Box Braids:

🤞🏽Technique: Box braids involve dividing the hair into equal square-shaped sections and then braiding hair in, using a knot at the base to secure the braid.

👩🏽‍🦱Scalp Tension: Box braids may have more tension on the scalp, especially at the base where the knots are located, which can sometimes cause discomfort or tightness.

👀Appearance: Box braids have a more defined and structured appearance and the knot at the base may be visible.

Personally I like to switch between both styles. And like many protective styles they have their advantages, and disadvantages. The choice between knotless braids and box braids often comes down to personal preference, desired look, and comfort.

Also a friendly reminder, you shed about 100 strands a day… so if your hair is up for 90 days - it’s going to look like breakage when in reality it’s just shedding. As long as you’re taking care of your scalp while your hair is protected - you’ll have minimal breakage and damage.

... Read moreWhen choosing between knotless and box braids, consider your hair type and lifestyle. Knotless braids are lighter and cause less tension, making them more comfortable for daily wear. They're also versatile, allowing for varied styles from ponytails to updos. However, they may not hold as tightly for those with finer hair compared to box braids. Box braids, on the other hand, have a more structured look and can last longer due to the added knot. If you're looking for a style that requires less maintenance and can withstand various activities, box braids might be ideal. Remember, both styles offer protection, which is crucial for maintaining hair health, but proper care is vital. To care for your scalp while wearing these styles, ensure you're moisturizing regularly and avoiding overly tight braids to reduce strain on the hair follicles. It's also beneficial to limit the time you keep your protective styles in to prevent potential issues like matting or excessive shedding. Embrace your braids while maintaining a healthy scalp!

I actually prefer box braids because they tend to stay nearer at the root longer than knotless which means I can be lazy for longer 😩
