Endometriosis surgery recovery survival guide! 📝
I am officially 2 weeks post operation from my stage 4 endometriosis excision surgery! 💪 I’m already feeling like a brand new person and wanted to share everything that has helped to prep and in recovery.
To prepare:
• Drink lots of electrolytes beforehand to be hydrated!🧃
• My medical team had me scrub with antibacterial soap the morning of the surgery. 🧼
• My oversized overalls were PERFECT to wear going home post surgery (not having something on my waistband where my incisions were was important). 🙌
• I prepared a basket in my bathroom with all the essentials I may need - disposable underwear, pads, bandaids and medicine. 💊
• I got a bunch of new cozy pjs, robes, and fuzzy socks washed and ready a few days before the surgery. 🥰
Post surgery:
• In my hospital bag, I packed the essentials! This was also great to keep in the bathroom once I got back home, it kept everything organized and easy to get to. 🧖♀️
• I also put together a bag of all my medicines, this helped to keep me on my pain medication schedule. I just took the bag with me in whatever room I was resting in! 💆🏼♀️
• Heating pads will become your best friend! I did ice packs on my stomach and heat on my back/shoulders. 🫶🏼
• My friends put together the perfect list of comfort movies and books for my recovery which was so wonderful! Highly recommend. ✨
• My family also meal prepped for my fiancé and I, making it easier for him to devote more of his time to taking care of me! Soups, pastas, and other comfort meals were great. 😋
Final thoughts:
• Mentally prepare yourself to be very sore and slow moving after surgery! My 4 incisions were tiny and did not hurt, but I was hurting in other ways. The “gas” pain after an abdominal surgery is very painful; the gas they use during surgery gets trapped behind your ribs making breathing feel super sharp. I was so thankful I had a support system and for my fiancé helping me wash myself everyday, get in and out of bed, walk me to the bathroom, take my medicine on time, etc. 🤍

Recovery from endometriosis surgery can vary significantly among individuals. Understanding common post-operative symptoms is crucial. Common issues include gas pain, soreness from incisions, and fatigue from anesthesia. To mitigate discomfort, consider gentle abdominal massages or walking to help relieve gas pressure. Eating small, frequent meals instead of large meals can also promote better digestion and comfort. Preparing ahead of time is vital. Set up a comfortable recovery area stocked with essentials like ice packs, heating pads, and medications. Engaging in light activities, such as short walks, can aid in your recovery, but remember to listen to your body. Focus on hydration and a balanced diet rich in nutrients to expedite healing. Creating a support system is invaluable. Whether it's family or friends, having help at hand makes a world of difference. Organize meal preparations or ask for assistance with household chores to allow you to focus on resting. Lastly, don’t hesitate to reach out to your healthcare provider with any unusual symptoms or concerns. Understanding what is normal can help alleviate anxiety and ensure you recover as smoothly as possible.
