When taking on large-scale 3D printing projects like this horse sculpture, the key factors to success include careful material selection, printer calibration, and patience throughout the process. Using a silk PLA filament adds an appealing glossy finish that enhances decorative models, but it can also require fine-tuning temperature settings to avoid stringing or surface imperfections. One thing I found helpful when printing tall objects with a 0.6 mm nozzle at 0.24 mm layer height is to monitor the print closely during the first several hours. This helps catch any layer adhesion issues early before committing significant filament and time. With nearly 600g of filament used over about 20 hours, it’s important to ensure your printer has good bed adhesion and consistent extrusion. The Bambu H2D’s reliability combined with the Flashforge filament proved to be an excellent combination. For others attempting something similar, I recommend optimizing print speed to balance quality and time—slower speeds generally help with details and smooth surfaces on decorative pieces. Also, make sure your slicing software is set to support tall, slender prints without causing wobble or layer shifts. Overall, pushing the Z-axis to its max on this horse model was a fun challenge that really tested my printer’s capabilities. If you enjoy experimenting with large decorative prints, consider trying different filament blends and nozzle sizes, and don’t hesitate to tweak your settings to find the perfect mix for your specific model.
