Difference between letting go and forgiveness

I struggle with this because I didn’t know that yes I forgave but why couldn’t I move forward why can’t I love him or see him in a different light well that because pain not that I was healing to be honest I just held on to it. I don’t want to give it up it was my way of paying back the brokenness he caused me. But that only pushed me away from God and that right there is the problem. So I had to decided not to just forgive but to let go.
