I used to avoid making wings at home because of the splatter and the hassle, but my air fryer has truly become my best friend for crispy, delicious results every single time. Seriously, once you try this, you won't go back! Here’s exactly what I do to get those perfect, juicy-on-the-inside, crispy-on-the-outside wings: What You'll Need: 1.5 - 2 lbs chicken wings (drumettes and flats) 1 tablespoon olive oil (or avocado oil) 1 teaspoon garlic powder 1 teaspoon onion powder 1 teaspoon paprika 1/2 teaspoon salt 1/4 teaspoon black pepper For the Buffalo Sauce (my favorite!): 1/2 cup hot sauce (I often use about half of a standard 354 mL bottle for a good kick!) 2-3 tablespoons unsalted butter, melted Let's Get Cooking! Prep the Wings: This is the most crucial step for crispiness! Pat your chicken wings thoroughly dry with paper towels. Seriously, get them as dry as possible. Any moisture will steam instead of crisp. Season Them Up: In a large bowl, toss the dried wings with olive oil, garlic powder, onion powder, paprika, salt, and pepper until they're all evenly coated. You can also add a pinch of cayenne if you like extra heat! Preheat Your Air Fryer: Set your air fryer to 375°F (190°C) and let it preheat for about 5 minutes. This helps ensure even cooking and a faster crisp. Air Fry Time (First Round): Arrange the seasoned wings in a single layer in your air fryer basket. Make sure not to overcrowd it! You’ll likely need to cook them in batches. Air fry for 15 minutes. Flip & Crisp: After 15 minutes, flip the wings over. Increase the air fryer temperature to 400°F (200°C) and continue to cook for another 10-15 minutes, or until they're golden brown and perfectly crispy. I usually check them at the 10-minute mark and give them a shake or a quick flip to ensure even browning. Sauce 'Em! While the wings are doing their final crisping, prepare your sauce. In a medium bowl, whisk together the melted butter and hot sauce. Once your wings are done, transfer them directly into the bowl with the sauce and toss until every wing is beautifully coated. Optional: Sauce Set: For an extra sticky coating, you can pop the sauced wings back into the air fryer for 1-2 minutes at 400°F (200°C). This really helps the sauce adhere. My Top Tips for Success: Don't Skip the Drying: I can't stress this enough! Dry wings = crispy wings. Single Layer is Key: Overcrowding steams the wings instead of frying them, so cook in batches if needed. Shake or Flip: This helps ensure all sides get exposed to the hot air for even crisping. Experiment with Seasonings: Feel free to add a little baking powder (about 1/2 tsp) to your seasoning mix for extra crispiness! Or try a lemon pepper rub, BBQ seasoning, or just salt and pepper.
