This is a poem, I wrote for my son. He’s a strong kid, that helps me in a lot of ways. I did this so he can always have something from me as an artist, dad, and friend. Much love from Coop
Writing this poem really made me reflect on the deep connection I have with my own kids. Like Coop beautifully expressed, sometimes words aren't enough to explain the love a parent feels, especially when a child experiences the world in their own unique way. I have a child who faces some sensory challenges and social hurdles, and learning to listen with my heart instead of just words has been a transformative experience for me. It’s not about expecting perfection from them or myself, but about embracing patience and always showing up for one another. What stood out to me in Coop’s poem was the promise to be a strength when energy runs low and a voice when words fail. This resonates so much because it highlights the importance of being present even when we don’t have all the answers. Every sleepless night, every little act of choosing to keep going really does add up and means the world to a child who needs that reassurance. I also appreciate the emphasis that a child is never defined by limitations or diagnoses but is loved fully and deeply. That perspective has helped me focus on nurturing my child’s potential rather than worrying about labels or challenges. It fosters an environment where they can feel truly valued for who they are. If you’re a parent, care provider, or anyone supporting a loved one through difficulties, I encourage you to create your own meaningful reminders of love and commitment. Sometimes putting these feelings into words, whether through poetry or letters, can strengthen your bond and remind you both of the unbreakable connection that carries through the toughest seasons. Coop’s poem is a poignant example of that beautiful journey of unconditional love and resilience.
