I am my own boss. And maaaan do I make myself work a lot 😂
There are positives and negatives to working for myself. I like that I can essentially work when I want to (as long as I’m getting stuff done). I like that I can meet fun people, travel to new places, and be able to create things I think are pretty. Negatives include: setting unrealistic expectations, working tooooo much, putting energy where it isn’t multiplied, and having uncertainty when things aren’t working out at the moment.
I’ll keep trying! I have a feeling things are going to start lookin up! Anyone else out here living their lives as their own boss?
Working for myself has been a rollercoaster of emotions and experiences. One key lesson I’ve learned is how easy it is to blur the lines between work and personal life. Without a traditional boss, I found myself working around the clock—just like the humorous image caption suggests: "My boss promised me time off... now my boss makes me work 24/7." That "boss" is me! Setting realistic goals and boundaries has become essential. I try to carve out clear work hours and schedule intentional breaks to recharge. This helps prevent burnout, which is a real risk when you’re your own boss and passionate about your projects. Another surprise has been how much I value connecting with others. Working independently can sometimes feel isolating, so I make a point to meet fun people and attend networking events. Traveling for work also adds excitement and inspiration, fueling creativity in my projects. On the flip side, not every effort pays off immediately. There are times when I pour energy into ideas or clients without seeing the return I expected. Learning to identify which tasks truly multiply my efforts versus which drain my time is a skill I’m slowly mastering. Despite the challenges, the freedom to create and control my work life is rewarding. I keep reminding myself that ups and downs are part of the journey to success. For anyone else out there living as their own boss, it’s important not to go it alone—sharing experiences, seeking advice, and celebrating victories together can make all the difference.
