Think of editing like making a cake.

As the author, you provide the ingredients.

Developmental Editing is making sure you have all the right ingredients, making sure nothing is missing and that you don’t have ingredients you don’t need or too much of one ingredient.

Line editing is where we start measuring out and mixing those elements with precision.

Copyediting is where we assemble the cake. This is where we make sure that everything is stacked properly, that the layers aren’t flat, that there is consistency throughout the cake.

Proofreading is where we decorate the cake. We go back in one last time to fine tune those decorations. Every sprinkle is where it should be.

Every step is done to perfection, or as close to perfection as humans can get. At the end of the day your delicious novel is ready to be published and consumed.
