Painting was another huge step; getting that metallic silver finish just right, with subtle white accents, took layers upon layers of primer, paint, and clear coat to ensure it would look fantastic under convention lights. The wings were, without a doubt, the most ambitious part. I remember trying several prototypes before landing on the door hinge mechanism. It wasn't just about making them move; it was about ensuring they were sturdy enough to withstand a crowded convention floor while still being lightweight enough to wear comfortably for hours. Building the frame and then attaching the individual "feathers" to create those expansive, large white wings was a labor of love. And the magnetized skirt pieces? A game-changer! No more fumbling with awkward straps when I needed a quick break or had to navigate a tight space. I used strong neodymium magnets, embedding them directly into the foam and belt, which provided a secure hold yet allowed for easy detachment. This build pushed my limits, taking over 100 hours from concept to completion. But seeing it all come together, and then putting it on for the first time, was incredibly rewarding. As a Black cosplayer, bringing Erza to life with my own flair, including styling my red curly hair to match her fierce look, felt incredibly empowering.
