CDC café crawl: part 2!
hey zesties 🍋 it’s been quite long since i posted but here’s the continuation of my CDC cafe crawl series 🤩 shoutout to my partner for finding this little gem on tiktok!
rise bakehouse has 3 outlets currently: Rise Bakehouse @ Chinatown (which is the one we visited), Rise Bakehouse @ Potong Pasir and Rise Bakehouse @ TripleOne Somerset
*TAKE NOTE that ONLY the POTONG PASIR outlet accepts CDC vouchers!
but here’s the catch: the potong pasir outlet sells only sweet treats like waffles, cakes and beverages, whereas both the somerset and chinatown outlets sell brunch meals, pasta and snacks as well!
we went to the chinatown outlet as it was quite raved on tiktok for the interior vintage aesthetic and the food 🤤 here’s what we ordered:
• mushroom soup 10/10 (my partner gulped that shit down)
• scallop rosé gochujang rigatoni 8/10 (was too spicy for me ngl but i’m like intolerant to chili 🤡)
• soft shell crab gochujang rigatoni 10/10 (must try! ✨)
• affogato 6/10 (way too bitter for me)
• winter wonderland 7/10 (tasted like peppermint latte basically but more milky)
• strawberry shortcake 10/10 (strawberry and cream can never go wrong)
• kaya pistachio cake 8/10 (worth a try but i hate nuts hehe)
honourable mentions:
• curry mayo fish and chips 9/10 (must try as well!)
If you're planning your own CDC cafe crawl, Rise Bakehouse is definitely worth a visit, especially the Chinatown outlet which stands out for its charming vintage interior and diverse menu beyond just sweet treats. One thing I found super helpful is knowing that the Potong Pasir outlet exclusively accepts CDC vouchers but only offers sweet items like waffles and cakes. If you want brunch or hearty meals like pasta and snacks, Chinatown and Somerset outlets are your go-tos. When I tried the mushroom soup there, it was comforting and full of flavor—easy to see why my partner loved it so much! The highlight for me was the soft shell crab rosé gochujang rigatoni; it’s an exciting fusion dish blending spicy Korean gochujang with Italian pasta, delivering a punch of bold flavors. If you’re sensitive to spice, beware though, some dishes can be quite fiery. For drinks, I personally found the affogato a bit too bitter, but the winter wonderland latte had a smooth, milky peppermint twist that felt unique and cozy. Desserts like the strawberry shortcake and kaya pistachio cake are definitely crowd-pleasers, with the strawberry shortcake being especially delightful. An honorable mention is the curry mayo fish and chips, which offers a creative spin on a classic favorite with a luscious curry mayo sauce. It’s perfect if you want to try something different yet comforting. Overall, this cafe crawl continues to expand my appreciation for local cafes that mix aesthetic vibes with impressive menus. If you hit these spots, make sure to check each outlet’s offerings and CDC voucher acceptance to maximize your experience and savings.
