Starting a new race season is always thrilling, and this year’s Bank of America Shamrock Shuffle was a fantastic way to kick things off in Chicago. I recently completed this event and am pumped about how it fits into my 2026 racing calendar. With 3 half marathons, 2 5Ks, and 2 10Ks still on the schedule, the season is shaping up to be both challenging and rewarding. One of the things that helped me during the Shamrock Shuffle was tracking my splits and heart rate closely, which made a big difference in pacing myself effectively. For example, my pace varied between 9'53" and 11'50" per mile, with heart rates fluctuating between 147 BPM and 166 BPM. Monitoring these metrics kept me aware of my performance and helped me push for personal bests across the season. Beyond just finishing races, focusing on metrics like heart rate helped me avoid burnout and manage my energy throughout the runs. If you’re preparing for a busy race season like mine, investing in a reliable fitness tracker can be a great complement to your training routine. Moreover, racing in Chicago offers unique opportunities due to its vibrant running community, scenic routes, and well-organized events. Participating in events like the Shamrock Shuffle not only boosts your running resume but also introduces you to a supportive network of local runners, which can be motivating and fun. As the season unfolds, I plan to share more insights and experiences regarding my training approaches, race-day strategies, and recovery tips. Whether you’re a seasoned runner or building up to your first half marathon, staying consistent and mindful about pacing and recovery is key. Here’s to hitting more personal bests and enjoying the journey each step of the way!
