Trying Villas Tacos in Los Angeles
Villas Tacos is a taco spot 🌮 with vegan options I’ve been wanting to visit for months. It’s just a tiny storefront in Highland Park so not much seating but I was happy to enjoy the food in my car. If I was willing to wait I probably could have gotten a seat but I was too hungry. There is plenty of parking at least.
I ordered the vegan trio taco plate that comes with one soyrizo, one nopales and one papas taco. Nopales is cactus and papas is potatoes for those who don’t know. These are the biggest cheapest tacos I’ve found in Los Angeles to date. The plate is $11.50 but typically vegan tacos can be like $4.50 at least each so this is a better deal. The blue corn tortilla tacos are filled generously and covered in guacamole. The tacos are so delicious and so is the hibiscus Agua Fresca I ordered.
I rate this spot a 9.5/10 and will definitely come back. #lafoodguide #larestaurantreview #lafood #lafoodie #eatinginla #lemon8food @Lemon8 Food
After my first incredible experience at Villas Tacos, I just had to share more tips for anyone planning a visit! This spot truly is a gem, and while the original review covered the delicious vegan options, there's even more to know to make your trip smooth and enjoyable. First things first, let's talk about the vibe. The original post mentioned it's a 'tiny storefront' in Highland Park, and that's spot on. Don't expect a fancy sit-down restaurant; this is authentic, no-frills taco magic! It's the kind of place where the focus is entirely on the food, and they absolutely nail it. You'll find it on York Boulevard, and while parking is generally available on the street, sometimes you might need to circle a block or two. I usually aim for off-peak hours if I want to grab a quick bite without too much waiting, but honestly, even a little wait is worth it for these tacos. While I raved about the vegan trio – and seriously, you must try the nopales and soyrizo tacos – Villas Tacos is renowned for all their offerings. My friends who eat meat swear by their carne asada and al pastor. What unites all their tacos is that commitment to quality: fresh, flavorful fillings, generous portions, and those amazing blue corn tortillas. They're not just a pretty color; they add a distinctive, slightly nutty flavor that really sets them apart from your average taco stand. And yes, every taco comes smothered in that dreamy guacamole, which is a huge plus in my book! Ordering is straightforward. You usually just walk up to the counter, place your order, and wait for your name to be called. If you're planning on eating in your car like I often do, grab some extra napkins – these tacos are delightfully messy in the best way possible! They also offer various aguas frescas beyond the hibiscus, so you can always find something refreshing to pair with your meal. I recommend trying a different flavor each time you go. For those who are new to Los Angeles or just visiting, finding authentic, high-quality tacos can feel overwhelming with all the options. Villas Tacos stands out not just for its incredible value but for the sheer quality and passion they put into every single taco. It's truly a local favorite for a reason, and it's become my personal benchmark for what a great taco should be. So, if you're ever in Highland Park and craving some seriously good tacos, make Villas Tacos your first stop. You won't regret it!
