Cozeeās 4 steps of learning Marvel Rivals
āļø 4 Steps āļø
š Marvel rivals was a fast paced splash in the character shooter space. While itās release was welcomed (by 10 million no less) the shininess is starting to tarnish. New game, different role names but same people which bring similar habits, expectations and experiences.
While the wave of videos is fun to watch, it brings some of the more over-categorized thinking that stifles playing a character and more into a formula ( but in the same breath being against role queue, but I digress ).
Below is a KISS ( keep it simple stupid ) framework to apply in game. Think of it as a mental checklist to do in game or my recommendation to try it in range AND custom maps to explore.
š Abilities: Understand both your characters and your common enemiesā abilities and nuances.
Some of these characters have so interesting abilities properties that may not be explained in their profile. The videos I do enjoy is of people explaining the ins and outs of the abilities and left click. Take some time to also learn the abilities of people you commonly go against.
šAdaptation: Madness is doing the same thing over again, learn to try something different before the swap, observe and process.
This is not even a month in, stop swapping and learn. Even if expecting to lose, learn to adapt and try something different. How to do that? Observation. If you die actually look at the kill cam, what could you have done? What is out of your control? What can you do to make it harder for that person to do the same thing again? Not everything is in your control even if you swap but there is not reason not to try and adapt.
šAwareness: Map,Position,Team,Enemy
Take time to learn the map ( including noting health pack ). But after that be aware. Not looking or noticing but being actively engaged in noting:
1. Your position: Are you LOS as vanguard? Too far back as strategist? Are you too knee deep in enemy lines to even think of getting healed or assisted? When you are in a position, be aware of if you can disengage, how to do so and the ability cost of doing so, if the cost is high with no payoff, play safe instead.
2. Team: You are 1/6th of a team, help out your team, if a team mate needs help, help them. If your team mate is trying to help you, make it easy for them. Be aware of what your team mates are doing.
3. Enemy: Take count throughout the game, if you canāt make it to 6 and no one on the enemy team died, or coming back from spawn, itās 100% an issue.
š Aiming:Try to learn to aim by understanding how a character shoots.
While there isnāt a lot of guns in game, you know what I mean. Understand how a characterās shooting works, for both friendly and enemy targets. Adapt your movement to make it easier. Dagger for example can ricochet her daggers and with auto lock for healing, you can use that combo to heal around corners.
š A long one but I am a yapper at heart.
š Play for fun, yourselves and each other,
