Having visited Nong Geng Ji at Vivocity multiple times myself, I must say the experience truly lives up to expectations. One of the standout features is their sour fish soup, which is refreshingly tangy and light, making it the perfect warm-up to a hearty meal. Unlike typical oily soups, this one is balanced with just the right acidity and a gentle sourness that whets the appetite. The Mao-style braised pork is another dish I never miss ordering. It has a perfect blend of lean and fatty parts, cooked slowly until tender, with the remarkable addition of salted egg yolk wrapped inside. This gives the pork a unique creamy texture and rich flavor that is quite unlike other dishes of the same kind elsewhere. I was also pleasantly surprised by the crispy broad bean chili chicken. Unlike the common peanut topping used in similar dishes, here they use crunchy broad beans, providing an extra layer of texture and flavor. The strong garlic aroma from the garlic vermicelli prawns makes each mouthful incredibly satisfying, as the vermicelli noodles absorb every drop of the savory shrimp and garlic juices. Dining at Nong Geng Ji is not just about the food — it’s also about the atmosphere. The restaurant is perfect for gatherings, whether with close friends or family, making it a cozy spot to enjoy traditional Hunan flavors together. Plus, before leaving, I often pick up some of their rice to bring home, as it complements their savory dishes perfectly. For those interested in exploring authentic Chinese regional cuisine in Singapore, especially Hunan or Xiang cuisine, this place should definitely be on your list. Its well-rounded flavors, attention to detail, and the unique twists on classic dishes set it apart, making every meal here memorable.
