iceland waterfalls 2023
Oh my goodness, Seljalandsfoss! Visiting this incredible waterfall in Iceland was an absolute dream come true for me, and honestly, pictures don't even do it justice. If you're planning a trip to Iceland, this has to be on your list – it's one of the few places where you can actually walk behind the cascading water! My first tip, and trust me on this, is to be prepared to get wet! Seriously, I thought I was ready with a waterproof jacket, but the spray is exhilarating and pervasive, especially when you venture behind the falls. A good waterproof outer layer, waterproof pants, and even waterproof shoes are a game-changer. My personal 'green' tip for staying comfortable and enjoying every moment was layering. I wore thermal base layers, a fleece, and then my full waterproof gear. It made all the difference in keeping warm and dry enough to fully immerse myself in the experience without feeling chilled. I visited in late spring, and the vibrant 'green' moss covering the cliffs around the waterfall was just breathtaking. It added such a magical, ethereal quality to the landscape. If you're looking for unique photos, try to go early in the morning or later in the afternoon to avoid the biggest crowds. I found that waiting for a brief moment when a tour bus had just left gave me a precious few minutes of relative solitude behind the falls, allowing me to truly soak in the roar and the misty atmosphere. Walking the path behind Seljalandsfoss is an experience you won't forget. The path can be a bit slippery, so sturdy shoes with good grip are essential. Take your time, look up, look out, and feel the immense power of nature all around you. It's truly humbling. I remember feeling the mist on my face and being utterly mesmerized by the sunlight catching the water as it fell. It felt like stepping into another world. Don't just stop at Seljalandsfoss! A short walk further along the path will lead you to Gljúfrabúi, often called the 'secret waterfall.' It’s hidden within a narrow canyon, and you have to wade through a shallow stream to get inside. This was another one of my 'Logan Green' type discoveries – something a bit more adventurous and less crowded, offering an incredibly intimate experience with a stunning waterfall. It's absolutely worth the extra effort and waterproof gear! The emerald green moss clinging to the canyon walls inside Gljúfrabúi is simply spectacular. For anyone specifically looking for a 'Logan Green' approach to Seljalandsfoss – perhaps a more mindful, immersive, or well-prepared visit – my advice would be to plan your timing, invest in proper waterproof gear, and don't rush. Take time to explore the surroundings, including Gljúfrabúi. Bring a quick-drying towel and maybe a change of clothes if you're sensitive to cold. And most importantly, let yourself be completely captivated by the sheer beauty and power of these Icelandic wonders. It’s an adventure you’ll cherish forever!
