This is a spicy one. Book 2 please! 🥰

Truly, Madly, Deeply by L.J. Shen

✨ 4.5/5 stars ✨

Row is Michelin star chef with a huge ego and Cal is a quirky awkward girl with demons from her past haunting her. But so does Row. And to see their second chance at love and watch them both deal with demons of the past, this was a great read. This best friend’s older brother/little sister’s best friend second-chance romance was the right mix of plot, spice, and tension/mystery. Be warned, Row is an intense lover and he will make you swoon as hard as Cal did. 😉

... Read moreOkay, let's really dive into the 'spicy chapters' aspect of 'Truly, Madly, Deeply' because I know that's a major draw for many of you, and L.J. Shen certainly delivers! When I say spicy, I mean this book doesn't hold back. The intimate scenes are frequent, well-written, and incredibly steamy, serving to deepen the connection between Row and Cal. It's not just gratuitous; each moment of passion feels earned, showcasing the undeniable, almost forbidden, chemistry that bubbles between them. Row, our intense Michelin star chef, has a possessive side that comes out in those scenes, which, coupled with Cal's journey from an awkward girl trying to overcome her past, makes for a combustible pairing. You feel the raw emotion and desperation in their encounters, making the spice a crucial part of their healing and rekindling their second chance at love. For those who appreciate detail in their romance, expect vivid descriptions that leave little to the imagination but always maintain a sense of emotional depth. Shen masterfully weaves the physical intimacy into the broader narrative of trauma, trust, and redemption. It’s the kind of spice that intensifies the stakes, reminding you just how much these two characters crave each other despite all the obstacles. This was a huge reason why I gave it a strong 4.5/5 star rating – the spice wasn’t just an add-on; it was integral to understanding their complex relationship. Beyond the undeniable heat, the book truly shines in its execution of beloved tropes. The 'best friend's older brother/little sister's best friend' trope is a personal favorite, and Shen handles it with such finesse, adding layers of forbidden longing and history. Both Row and Cal are scarred by their pasts, and witnessing them confront their demons, individually and together, while navigating this intense, second-chance romance, is incredibly rewarding. It provides a rich, emotional backdrop for all the tension and mystery that unfolds. As part of the Forbidden Love Series, 'Truly, Madly, Deeply' exemplifies L.J. Shen's talent for crafting dark, compelling romances with morally grey characters you can't help but root for. Her writing style is sharp, engaging, and pulls you into the characters' minds, making their struggles and triumphs feel deeply personal. If you’re looking for a book that combines a gripping plot, intricate character development, and a generous dose of explicit, heartfelt spice, then this is absolutely a must-read. It’s perfect for fans who love a challenge in their romance, where the characters have to fight hard for their happily ever after. You won’t be disappointed; you’ll likely be clamoring for book two, just like me!
