I guess I’m hooked.

Flock by Kate Stewart

The Ravenhood trilogy - book 1

✨ 3.5/5 stars ✨

This book was alright, and I will keep going with this series, only because book one ended on a cliffhanger and I need to know the actual identity of that character… if you know you know! The spice was excellent in this book, and the plot kept me engaged. Cecelia’s character just fell short for me.

Definitely check trigger warnings before starting this book/series.

... Read moreAfter finishing 'Flock,' I just had to share more of my thoughts, especially for those curious about diving into Kate Stewart's world. Let's start with the book cover itself – it's absolutely stunning and perfectly sets the tone for 'THE RAVENHOOD' series. The image of the large bird with outstretched wings over a dark forest immediately hints at the mystery and intensity within. And that tagline, 'CAN YOU KEEP A SECRET?' – it really grabs you, doesn't it? It perfectly primes you for the twists and turns ahead in this first book of The Ravenhood trilogy. I think the cover alone is a piece of art that makes you want to pick it up and explore the secrets held within its pages. One of the most crucial points I always emphasize with books like 'Flock' is checking trigger warnings. While the original review briefly mentioned it, it's so important to elaborate. Kate Stewart is known for her intense, often dark romance novels, and 'Flock' is no exception. Without giving away specifics, be prepared for themes that delve into morally grey areas, potentially including elements of captivity, manipulation, power imbalances, and intense psychological situations. If you're sensitive to these topics, a quick search for detailed trigger warnings online before you start will help you decide if this journey is right for you. It ensures you can enjoy the story without any unexpected discomfort. For those new to Kate Stewart, she truly excels at crafting complex characters and intricate plots that keep you guessing. Her writing style is addictive, pulling you into the characters' minds and making you feel every emotion. 'Flock' introduces us to Cecelia, and while I found her character development a bit lacking in this first installment, I'm genuinely intrigued to see how she evolves in the subsequent books. Kate Stewart has a knack for creating male leads that are enigmatic and powerful, and the men in 'Flock' are no different, leaving you wondering about their true intentions and loyalties. The Ravenhood series is lauded for its unique blend of dark romance, suspense, and unexpected turns. 'Flock' is just the beginning, and as I mentioned, it ends on a massive cliffhanger that practically forces you to pick up book two! This series isn't just about romance; it’s a deep dive into psychological dilemmas and moral ambiguity, which makes it incredibly engaging. It’s the kind of series that sparks a lot of discussion among readers, from speculating about character motivations to debating intense plot points. And speaking of discussion, the potential for Flock fan art is huge! With such vivid imagery – from the iconic book cover to the mysterious atmosphere of the story – artists have a great canvas to work with. Imagine interpretations of the characters, the symbolic raven, or key scenes. It’s always fun to see how a book inspires creativity in its readers. The community around the Ravenhood series is quite active, which adds another layer of enjoyment to the reading experience. Overall, 'Flock' by Kate Stewart, with its 3.5/5 stars from my personal rating, delivers on spice and an engaging plot, even with some character nuances. The cliffhanger definitely left me eager for more, and I'd recommend it to anyone who enjoys dark romance with a strong dose of suspense, provided they've checked the trigger warnings. It’s a compelling start to a series that promises to keep you on the edge of your seat.
