On the menu was Vigan Longganisa (Pork Sausage), Daing na Bangus (Fried Milk Fish), Sinangag (Garlic Fried Rice), Itlog (Fried eggs), Sukang Sawsawan (Spicy Vinegar) and some fresh tomato and cucumbers. Side note - Sinangag is truly the best fried rice in the world.
Trying a traditional Filipino breakfast like Longsilog, which combines Vigan Longganisa, Daing na Bangus, and Sinangag, offers a unique taste experience deeply rooted in Filipino culture. From personal experience, I’ve found Sinangag—garlic fried rice—to be incredibly comforting and aromatic, making it arguably the best fried rice variant worldwide. The garlic scent and flavor elevate the meal, balancing well with the salty and slightly sweet longganisa sausage. Daing na Bangus, or fried milkfish, is another highlight that truly captivates the palate with its crispy texture and distinct taste often compared to grilled sea bream. When dipped in Sukang Sawsawan, a spicy vinegar concoction, the flavor profile becomes even more intense and exciting. This vinegar dipping sauce adds a perfect tangy kick to the savory dishes. The addition of fresh tomatoes and cucumbers is refreshing, providing a cool contrast to the rich and hearty main dishes. Having tried this breakfast with Korean friends, it was fascinating to see their surprise and delight, especially appreciating how the garlic fried rice was different from other countries’ versions and how the spiciness of the vinegar added excitement. Overall, this breakfast combo not only pleases the taste buds but also tells a story of Filipino heritage and everyday life. For anyone interested in exploring Filipino cuisine, starting with Longsilog and its complementary sides is a delicious and authentic gateway.
