First night of our spring get together with the whole family. My youngest sister’s family from Canada met us at a midpoint and we spent 3 nights and 4 days together. First day was hubby’s birthday and he requested a steak dinner.
Family reunions are always a special time to reconnect and create lasting memories. From my experience, meeting halfway between our home and my sister’s family in Canada was the perfect choice. It made travel easier and allowed us to enjoy a longer visit together. For hubby’s birthday dinner, we opted for steak—a classic celebratory meal that never fails to bring smiles. Cooking the perfect steak can be an art form. Whether you prefer it rare, medium, or well done, seasoning and the right cooking method make all the difference. We often like to add butter and sour cream on the side, as they complement the steak’s rich flavor beautifully. This kind of gathering isn’t just about the food, but the stories and laughter shared around the table. I recall a funny moment when the fire alarm went off during cooking—our 'Fire Alarm Prevention Crew' quickly handled the situation with lots of laughs. In Korean family style, sharing food is an experience filled with warmth and connection. Watching everyone, especially the kids, dig into the meal while calling it "bussin" (delicious) really warmed my heart. One of my favorite moments was the awkward but affectionate Korean family hugs—these little cultural touches remind me how food unites us across borders and generations. If you’re planning a family get-together or birthday celebration, I highly recommend choosing a meal everyone loves. Steak is a crowd-pleaser, but adding traditional sides or blending in cultural favorites can make the event even more memorable. Above all, it’s these simple gatherings that create the sweetest, most cherished memories.
