Trying to figure life out without my Daddy
Growing up, having a father figure who balances teaching independence with unwavering support can deeply shape who you become. My own experiences reflect this delicate balance—learning to stand up for myself while knowing that whenever I faltered, my dad would be there to catch me. This duality taught me not just resilience but also trust. Trusting myself as the primary person responsible for my life grew from these early lessons. I've come to realize that self-reliance is more empowering when it coexists with the knowledge that support is available if needed. Reflecting on those moments, especially in Pikeville where I spent much of my youth, reminds me how important it was for my dad to provide not only hard work ethics but also emotional security. He ensured I had what I needed but never enabled dependency. This approach helped me build confidence in my ability to face challenges and make decisions. For anyone grappling with their own path after losing or being distant from a parental figure, embracing the values they instilled can be a guiding light. It’s a beautiful mix of honoring their teachings and carving out your unique identity. Standing strong doesn’t mean standing alone—it means knowing when to rely on yourself and when to lean on the support system your dad helped build.
