What is your favorite keyboard for iPad?

2024/2/9 Edited to

... Read moreYou know how it is when you’re constantly looking for that perfect accessory to supercharge your iPad productivity? I’ve been on quite the journey myself, trying out different keyboards to find the ultimate companion for my digital planning and daily tasks. While my heart eventually settled on the Magic Keyboard, I wanted to share my honest thoughts on some other popular options I explored, especially since I know many of you are curious about alternatives like Logitech, Brydge, and even general-purpose keyboards. First off, let’s talk about the Logitech Create iPad Keyboard Case and Base. This one always caught my eye because of the complete bundle it offered – a protective case, a keyboard, and even a charging stand. When I first got my hands on it, I was impressed by the solid build. The integration with the iPad felt secure, and having everything in one package was super convenient. The keys had a decent travel, and I found typing on it quite comfortable for longer sessions, especially when I was deep into a digital planner layout or drafting emails. The 'logi' brand definitely delivered on quality in terms of feel. I remember appreciating the dedicated row of iPadOS shortcut keys, which really boosted my workflow. However, it did add significant bulk, making my sleek iPad feel a bit more like a small laptop, which isn't always what I'm going for when I choose an iPad over a MacBook. Still, for sheer protection and a full keyboard experience, it’s a strong contender. Then there was the Brydge 12.9 Pro+. Oh, the Brydge! This one always promised to turn your iPad Pro into a true laptop replacement, and it almost delivered. The aluminum design perfectly matched my iPad Pro 12.9, giving it a premium, seamless look. The hinge mechanism was incredibly robust, allowing for a wide range of viewing angles, which was fantastic for creative work or watching tutorials. Typing on the Brydge Pro+ felt incredibly satisfying; the keys had a similar feel to a MacBook keyboard, with a crisp response. I particularly loved the backlit keys for late-night planning sessions. It truly felt like I was using a tiny laptop. My main reservation was that it wasn't quite as integrated as Apple's own solution, and sometimes the connection could be a little finicky. Also, while the robust hinge is great, it can be a bit stiff. But for those who want that true laptop-like experience with their iPad, the Brydge Pro+ is a serious contender. Finally, I also experimented with more general keyboards, including looking into options like the HP 400 keyboard. While not specifically designed for the iPad, I considered how versatile a standard Bluetooth keyboard could be. The HP 400, for instance, offered a full-size layout and a comfortable typing experience for desktop use, and it could technically pair with an iPad. However, without the dedicated iPadOS function keys, trackpad integration, or the seamless power connection of iPad-specific keyboards, it quickly became apparent that while it worked, it wasn't optimized for the iPad experience. Things like adjusting volume, brightness, or quickly accessing the home screen required reaching for the iPad's screen, which broke the flow. For casual typing, it might be fine, but for serious productivity or digital planning, those specialized features really make a difference. The layout of the 'return' and 'delete' keys felt different from the compact iPad-specific keyboards, which took some getting used to. My journey through these keyboards taught me a lot about what I truly value in an iPad accessory. Each of these options — the comprehensive Logitech Create, the laptop-like Brydge Pro+, and even contemplating a versatile HP 400 — offered unique benefits. But ultimately, for my specific workflow in digital planning, journaling, and general productivity, the Apple Magic Keyboard hit that perfect balance of integration, portability, and user experience that I couldn't find elsewhere. It truly makes my iPad feel like an extension of myself, rather than just a tablet with an attached keyboard.
