The Truth - Your Feelings Are Valid
This is one hundred percent the truth. Your feelings are valid and so are mine. This is another affirmation I’m adding to my wall of affirmations :) I hope you’re enjoying following along on my journey 🥰#summerdiary #lemon8contest
It’s a simple phrase, isn't it? “My feelings are valid.” Yet, for so many of us, really believing it can be a monumental challenge. I know it was for me. I used to think certain feelings were 'bad' or 'unacceptable' – especially anger, sadness, or anxiety. I’d try to push them away, ignore them, or pretend they didn't exist. But what I learned, often the hard way, is that trying to suppress any feeling is like trying to hold a beach ball underwater; it always eventually pops back up, often with more force. That's why this affirmation, 'my feelings are valid,' has become a cornerstone of my self-care routine. It's not about letting emotions control you, but about creating a space for them to simply *be*. Just like those beautiful sticky notes I put up, each one a little burst of color and a positive message, this idea allows me to acknowledge what’s going on inside without judgment. It’s a profound shift from ‘what’s wrong with me for feeling this?’ to ‘okay, this is what I’m feeling, and that’s alright.’ So, why is it so important to truly embrace that your feelings are valid? For me, it opened the door to better understanding myself. When I allow a feeling, even an uncomfortable one, to surface, I can then ask myself, ‘What is this feeling trying to tell me?’ Is my anger a signal that a boundary has been crossed? Is my sadness pointing to a need for comfort or connection? Recognizing these messages helps me address my needs rather than just reacting to the emotion itself. I’ve started creating my own ‘wall of positive messages’ and affirmations, much like the vibrant collection of sticky notes I saw, where ‘my feelings are valid’ holds a prominent spot. Seeing it every day is a gentle reminder to practice self-compassion. If you're looking for ways to integrate this belief into your life, here are a few things I've found helpful: Journaling: When a strong emotion comes up, just write it down. Don't censor yourself. Simply acknowledge, 'I am feeling X right now, and that's valid.' Talking to a trusted friend: Share your feelings with someone who listens without trying to fix or minimize them. Just having someone say, 'That sounds really tough, and it's okay to feel that way,' can be incredibly validating. Visual Affirmations: Just like my sticky note, a visual cue can be powerful. Write 'my feelings are valid' on a card, a mirror, or even your phone's wallpaper. Let it be a constant symbol of your commitment to yourself. Mindful Pause: Before reacting to a situation, take a deep breath and quickly check in with yourself. 'What am I feeling right now? Is it fear? Frustration? And is that feeling valid in this moment?' This pause creates space for a more intentional response. Remember, validating your feelings isn't about being weak or overly emotional; it's a powerful act of self-respect and self-awareness. It's about recognizing that every single emotion you experience is a legitimate part of your human experience. There's no right or wrong way to feel. Just the truth that your feelings are valid, and so are mine. Start small, be kind to yourself, and watch how much more connected you become to your inner world.
