Digital Paper?? A reMarkable 2 Review
I got my reMarkable 2 about four months ago for Christmas and have learned so much about how to best use it ever since. Here’s a breakdown of everything you need to know and whether it’s worth it - from my lens!
✨Key features:
-Feels like paper: super unique
-Screen isn’t backlit so easy on eyes
-Great battery life (~2 weeks on average)
-Good storage (16 GB)
-Current price: $399
✨General structure:
-easy to organize different notebooks and folders
-various flexible layouts and grids for writing and drawing
-only black and white
✨Stylus/screen:
-Sensitive stylus makes it easy to write with varying pressure
-But it also gets scratchy sometimes
-Takes some time to load between screens; not a very smooth transition on the interface
✨Pros over actual paper:
-super easy to undo, cut and move, delete
-different pen styles and grids
-great for jotting random things in a single place
-great for taking notes and experimenting
-some advanced features like layers and tags for easy organization
✨Worth it if:
-you write a lot (of course) or are in a specific role like a student looking to take notes, an employee who wants distraction-free planning at work, etc.
-you want a tool that’s easy on the eyes
-you’re looking for some digital convenience but want the traditional paper-like feel without added distractions
-not the best for artists because of limited colors
✨Overall, I love this device since it was gifted to me and also because I write a lot. But from an investment standpoint, I think it really depends on what you need and how much of a digital/traditional balance you’re looking for. I think it can be great for some individuals but perhaps not the best value for money for others!
Let me know if you have any questions ❤️
Okay, so let's talk about something incredibly practical on the reMarkable 2 that makes it feel like an actual extension of my brain – Quick Sheets! When I first got my digital paper device, I was so focused on setting up all my perfect notebooks and templates. But then I discovered Quick Sheets, and honestly, they've become a game-changer for those spontaneous thoughts and fleeting ideas. For anyone wondering, Quick Sheets are basically your reMarkable's scratchpad. They're designed for super fast, on-the-fly note-taking without the need to navigate through your meticulously organized file system or choose a specific notebook. Think of it like always having a fresh, blank sheet of paper ready, no matter what folder you were last in. Just a quick tap, and you're ready to jot down that brilliant idea before it disappears. From my experience, I use Quick Sheets for a few main things. Firstly, brainstorming sessions. If I'm reading an article or listening to a podcast and an idea sparks, I'll immediately open a Quick Sheet. It's less disruptive than opening a new document in a specific project folder. Secondly, temporary to-do lists for the day. Sometimes I don't want to add every little task to my main planner, but I need a place for quick reminders. Quick Sheets are perfect for this – I can just tick things off and then delete the sheet at the end of the day. Another great use? Meeting notes. If a meeting pops up unexpectedly, or I'm in a casual discussion where I just need to capture key points without worrying about formal organization at that moment, Quick Sheets are my go-to. I can quickly capture actions, decisions, and follow-ups. Later, I can easily move these notes into the relevant project notebook within my reMarkable's file system. That's the beauty of it – they're temporary but not disposable; you can always integrate them. Managing them is surprisingly easy. You can create as many Quick Sheets as you need, and they all live together in their own dedicated section. What I love is the flexibility. If a thought I jotted down on a Quick Sheet turns into a major project, I can simply select the content, cut it, and paste it into a new page in one of my established notebooks. Or, if it's just a temporary scribble, I can delete the Quick Sheet with a couple of taps, keeping my digital workspace clutter-free. This really leverages the “easy to undo, cut and move, delete” feature that the reMarkable boasts. It truly embraces the “jotting random things in a single place” aspect mentioned in the review. It’s like having an infinite stack of digital sticky notes that you can sort through, move, or discard, all while enjoying that distinct paper-like feel that’s so easy on the eyes. If you're a student, a creative, or just someone like me who has ideas popping up constantly, mastering Quick Sheets will seriously level up your reMarkable 2 experience. It adds another layer of practicality to this already unique digital paper device. Don't underestimate these little digital scratchpads; they're a testament to the reMarkable's true utility for anyone who values a distraction-free, flexible digital writing tool. They blend the immediacy of a physical notepad with the endless possibilities of a digital file system, ensuring no good idea ever gets lost.
