Laundromat Studying + Laundry = Bliss
Let’s face it- I don’t think any of us really LIKE to study. Especially during the summer when there’s other things you could be doing! Here is my take on why I most of the time- prefer to study at the laundromat! 📖
I live in a small home in the country- which I LOVE! But I do not have a washer and dryer. This has led to me finding more unique ways to make it less daunting! 🧺
I will sometimes do laundry at my neighbors, but honestly it’s more motivating to be able to leave the house for a bit and get it all done in one trip! 😂
As an ADHD girlie, I recently stumbled upon a new laundromat in my area and they have tables! So I started taking my studies to the mat! I put in my loop ear buds, cancel out the noise and study! 👩🏻💻
Why this works 👉🏼 because it combines being in “public” effect to studying as well as the pomodoro method in a sense! I set a timer for 25 mins (washer cycle) and then switch over clothes- move around some and then I set another timer for 30 mins usually for the second sprint! I don’t always get everything done need to, but it helps tremendously by giving me a change in scenery and a fun way to make it happen! 📑
This could even be combined with reading of course! I’ve taken a book, my kindle and even listened to audiobooks! 📚
Let's be real, laundry day often feels like a never-ending chore, and adding studying to the mix? That can sound like a recipe for overwhelm! But what if I told you there’s a way to turn those mundane laundry hours into super-productive, focused study sessions? I've found my ultimate hack by taking my books and laptop to the local laundromat, and it’s been a game-changer, especially for my ADHD brain! Transforming Laundry Day into a Study Power Hour The magic really lies in the unique environment of a laundromat. For me, living in a quiet country home means sometimes I need that 'public effect' to kick my brain into gear. The gentle hum of the machines and the low-level background activity create a perfect white-noise bubble, especially with my noise-canceling earbuds in. I’ve found a laundromat with great tables, making it easy to set up my study zone with my laptop and notes, just like you'd see me doing in the pictures. My secret weapon? The Pomodoro method, perfectly synced with laundry cycles! Think about it: a standard wash cycle is often around 25 minutes – the ideal length for a focused study sprint. I set my timer, dive into my work, and when the buzzer goes off, it's time for a quick break to switch loads. This natural rhythm breaks up my study time, prevents burnout, and ensures I'm moving my body, which is fantastic for maintaining focus. Then, it's another sprint for the dryer cycle, maybe 30 minutes, before moving on to the next task. It's like a real-life gamified productivity system, much more engaging than any 'laundering simulator' game could offer, and the rewards are actual clean clothes and accomplished study goals! Mindful Moments During Folding Sessions Beyond the study sprints, those folding sessions are another underrated opportunity. Instead of rushing through them, I’ve learned to embrace them as a mindful break. With a large pile of dirty laundry transformed into neatly folded clothes, it's incredibly satisfying. This is where I might put on an audiobook or a podcast, or simply enjoy the tactile process of folding. It’s a moment of calm, a chance to let my brain 'reset' before the next study task or simply to appreciate the accomplishment of a completed chore. Seeing those piles of freshly folded laundry stacked up is such a visual reward! Tips for Your Own Laundromat Productivity Hack Ready to try this yourself? Here are a few things I’ve learned: Choose Your Laundromat Wisely: Look for one that's clean, well-lit, and ideally has tables or a comfortable waiting area. Some even have Wi-Fi! While I don't need a specific 'laundrolab in Tampa,' finding a welcoming spot is key anywhere. Pack Smart: Bring your study essentials – laptop, chargers, headphones, books, a water bottle, and maybe some snacks. Don't forget your laundry essentials like detergent and fabric softener! Organize Your Laundry: Having my laundry in efficient baskets (like the two nested ones I use for carrying) helps streamline the process, from getting dirty clothes in to bringing clean ones home. Embrace the Flow: Don't stress if you don't get everything done. The goal is to make progress and utilize time that might otherwise be wasted. It's about combining tasks to lighten your mental load, not add to it. This approach has truly transformed my perspective on chores and studying. It’s not just about getting laundry done; it’s about creating a productive, even mindful, experience out of everyday tasks. Give it a try – you might just find your own laundromat bliss!

Genius! I'm totally stealing this idea. My apartment is a total distraction zone. Laundry + studying = productivity win!
