Dungeon Crawler Carl Review (Books 1&2)

I actually saw this series pop up on my FYP a few months back and thought, Let’s give it a shot! Well, I was not disappointed. If you’re into adventure tales with a dungeons and dragons feel, this is the story for you! What would you do if suddenly the world was gone and you were forced to survive in an intergalactic gameshow? And for some “razzle dazzle,” the gameshow hosts pull you into their television programs to interview you for additional entertainment? Well that’s exactly what happened to Carl and his loveable cat, Princess Donut!

This story is a wild ride. I laughed out loud more times than I could count. It’s a blend of dungeons and dragons, and a deadly game show. You can’t just survive. You must survive with pizzazz and flare. Do you realize how frustrating that is? Dinniman does a great job showing Carl’s humanity throughout his adventures. “You will not break me.”

This is the second installment of the Dugeon Crawler Carl Universe. Carl and Donut have made it to the next floor known as the Over City. They just want to level up, but they’ve been sucked into the circus of nightmares and mystery that will definitely get them killed. I love how Dinniman continues the running jokes from book 1 as well as the consequences for some “explosive” choices. The political intrigue also jumped up a notch in this story. Can’t wait for book 3!

... Read moreIf you've just finished devouring the first two books of Dungeon Crawler Carl like I have, you're probably buzzing with questions and the desperate need for more. This series is more than just a review—it’s an experience that’s truly changed how I look at LitRPG. Let's dive a little deeper into what makes this apocalyptic game show sensation so captivating and address some of the things I found myself searching for after my read! First off, the dynamic between Carl and Princess Donut is the heart of it all. Donut isn't just a pet; she's a character with agency, a sharp tongue, and an unshakeable bond with Carl. Their banter and mutual support through the most insane challenges are what truly hooked me. Carl's journey from a regular guy to a resourceful survivor, constantly pushed to his limits but refusing to break, is incredibly inspiring. The Team Princess Donut! vibe mentioned in the OCR truly encapsulates their partnership! One of the first things that drew me in, even before reading the blurb, were the Dungeon Crawler Carl book covers. The iconic skull imagery, often with subtle variations for each installment, really sets the tone for the brutal yet darkly humorous world. It's instantly recognizable and perfectly captures the essence of the game—it's deadly, but there's a certain razzle dazzle to it, as the game masters would say. The skull logo on the mug in the OCR also shows how much this imagery has become a symbol for the series. For those of you wondering about the immersive experience, you absolutely must check out the Dungeon Crawler Carl audio immersion tunnel season 2 and beyond. The narration takes an already fantastic story and elevates it to another level. It's not just an audiobook; it feels like you're right there in the Crawl with Carl and Donut, experiencing every explosion and bizarre challenge firsthand. The voice acting truly brings the characters, especially Princess Donut, to life in a way I hadn't imagined. If you're already a stalwart fan, or wondering what that term even means in this context, it refers to those strong, unyielding individuals who manage to survive the Crawl against all odds. It’s a testament to Carl's character that he embodies this spirit so well. His unwavering determination, even when facing mystery razzle dazzle and seemingly impossible situations, is what makes him such a compelling protagonist. And speaking of more, if you're like me and constantly searching for books like Dungeon Crawler Carl because you can't get enough, you're in luck! The LitRPG genre is growing, and while DCC is unique, you can find other series that blend game mechanics with compelling narratives, dungeon crawling, or even post-apocalyptic settings. Look for "Dungeon Core" or "System Apocalypse" subgenres. While nothing is exactly the same, exploring similar themes can help bridge the gap between DCC releases. Lastly, for those wanting to keep up, it's always best to check online for all Dungeon Crawler Carl books in order and Dungeon Crawler Carl book release dates. The author's website or dedicated fan wikis are usually the most reliable sources. The sheer popularity and consistently high Dungeon Crawler Carl ratings across platforms make it clear that this series is here to stay, and I, for one, eagerly await every new installment, hoping for a Dungeon Crawler Carl show adaptation someday!
